Hi Gang:

It is so amazing to think that we are starting our 11th year. In browsing the first messages from 1993, it brought dew to my eyes to see the postings of those who did not survive. Some of us are still here, doing all we can to keep hope alive and work toward finding a cure.

You would never know it but we have received over 1/2 million emails from the listserv in these 11 years. Simon Coles maintained the archiving of the messages for many years until he changed jobs and his previous company ceased doing so.

Now all the messages from day 1 are on PIENO, for those who wish to browse them....all 1/2 million of them.

These tinyurls are shortened versions that don't wrap in email. When you see tinyurl in an email, that is just a URL that has been translated for brevity.

The Parkinsn Matrix page is the one place where I could direct you to the archives that hold the messages. The messages are filed in 500 or less message groups and each group is represented by an X.

The dates as with the maillist page are sorted with the oldest at the top.

mar-jan for example XXX the first X would be the messages sent the end of March in what ever year. The last X would be the messages sent the first of January.

Each year is broken up into quarters, having the messages sorted by date in the left four columns and the messages sorted by threads in the right four columns.

There is a Google search box on the parkinsn matrix page. That will direct you to where words will be found on PIENO, but not the archives. It is unlikely that any search engine will index over 1/2 million pages....but we can hope.

Serious Parkinsn researchers will like a new page I created today because it has all my sources in one place...kinda like a Swiss army knife. Many will want to bookmark the page and create a shortcut they can put on their desktop.

The news articles that I post are either from Google, Yahoo or NewsTrove.

The page has the preconfigured links for stem cell searches and for Parkinsons.

The link is there for all the Parkinson's clinical trials.

The search box for Medline is there.

The Google search box titled "Specialized Google Searches" is just that.
Below the search box are round bullets associated with names of national parkinson's organization. You click on the organization you want to check for the word or words you type in the search box. You then click the "Google Search" button.

Use the back button after you search one site to come back and click on another site to search.

http://tinyurl.com/46kfp is the URL for the Parkinson's Answer Center.

Coming to the realization that no search engine company was going to index our 1/2 million pages of the archive, spurred me to dream a bit.

I found a company in the Ukraine who convinced me that with the proper server software, PIENO could index itself. Like buying swampland in Florida, I knew that would take more server space than we have had in the last 6 or 7 years. Doing some calculation, the storage requirement on the webserver would be huge.

Starting Monday....today, I am moving PIENO to a larger website and when that is done, install the indexing software, and some poll software.

If the calculations are correct PIENO will reside on the server comfortably.

The installation of the poll software excites me and others about the potential of organizations and members to conduct complex questionaires that could be translated into a study done in a proper atmosphere. Polls can be public or private.

IF the site indexing is successful, indexing of other PD sites is a possibility. This possibility is eagerly awaited.

IF our indexing attempt fails, after I get over the embarrassment....for about $23,000 we can do it properly. I will use my allies, friends and neighbors to attempt to raise that money.

Well I hope you have found my ramblings informative.

Happy 11th Birthday!

John
