2004 was an eventful year for us, we survived another election, We succeeded in getting approval in several states for stem cell research.

PIENO, the online version of the Parkinsn list obtained a new hosting partner and got the website moved without major interruptions.

I met several of you at the 2004 Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York city, last April.

We rescued the Parkinsn Archive and got it safely moved to PIENO.

We succeeded in building a search engine that not only indexed the whole 11 years of Parkinsn but also indexed, NPF, PDF, APDA, We Move, MD Virtual University, The Parkinson Alliance, Unity Walk, DBS-STN, Parkinsons Action Network, Northwest Parkinson's Foundation and the Michael J Fox Foundation. The PIENO search boxes are on every one of the 115,000 pages.

Why would we do that? All of our Parkinson's organizations are content rich with information for the young and old. There is no one Parkinson's site that can have it all and the PIENO search engine will point you and everyone in the right direction. All of the Organizations on the search box when clicked on becomes a list of individual locations you can restrict your search to if for example you wanted to find out about research on the Michael J Fox site.

Old hands will remember when viruses were a part of the list day and sent out by the listserv when a members computer became infected. Those messages have been cleaned.

Some members sent attachments to Parkinsn with their postings. Those have been removed.

Links from the messages have been removed because most all of them have disappeared.

Subscriber email addresses have been obliterated so spammers cannot harvest your email address and sell it to other spammers. PIENO started removing working email addresses last summer. Naturally, the only persons who can discover your email address is other subscribers when you post and they get Parkinsn email.

The Parkinsn messages are organized like drawers in a file cabinet, each year is broken up into four sections for the quarters. Knowing that the information is what is important, the PIENO search engine just indexed the messages not the underlying infrastructure. When you search for a word or phrase (enclosed in "Michael J Fox") you are pointed to specific messages that contain what your are looking for.

Click on the search box words All Parkinsons Organizations and you will see the file cabinets and the drawers for searching individual organizations or specific quarters in years.

The more search words you put together on the Keywords: line, the more precise your return will be. If you find nothing, remove the words one at a time.

We also have a Google site search box or two on PIENO. As good as Goggle is, they still are commercial and do not search every file on PIENO and the ones they do search may drop out of their index. The PIENO search on the other hand is under our control.

For those traveling to New York City for the Unity Walk next April, you will see Barbara Patterson and I. We have been selected as Co-recipients of the Alan Bonander Award, presented by the Bonander family this year. We are humbled and excited by the news.

I am told that new at the walk this year will be a place where folks can meet and gather so that many of us who are familiar by name can be familiar by face. Barbara and I are anxiously wanting to meet each and everyone.

Barbara Patterson's entourage and I will be staying at the Belvedere Hotel this year on Friday and Saturday. Give us a call and maybe we can chat over coffee.

2005 has several new things coming to PIENO. Stay tuned for future announcements.
