Hi Rayilyn,

I hope it is clear that I support ESCR (embryonic stem cell research.) I just find it fascinating in a horrified sort of way that the President's Council on Bioethics seems to have taken all the arguments in support of ESCR and used them as the basis for formulating all of its arguments against ESCR.

IVF as sexual reproduction is one example, and the use of the word "embryo" to denote the product of SCNT is another; the latter, of course, providing the basis for the rejection of
SCNT as an option.

On another note, in my quest to illuminate any omissions or hypocrisies in the anti-ESCR arsenal, I have come across Robert P. George and Patrick Lee's article "Acorns and Embyros" in the Fall 2004/Winter 2005 issue of The New Atlantis. In it, the authors spin and omit shamelessly, and also employ the assertion that "we consider all human beings to be equal in basic dignity and human rights" frequently in their arguments against the use of embryos in research.

well, I don't know who or what is the arbiter of what is and isn't a basic human right, but I would say, and Amnesty International seems to agree, that the freedom to marry as one wishes qualifies; and I wonder what Mr. George, Mr. Lee, and anyone else who uses the justification that all humans are equal in their anti-ESCR arguments think of gay marriage.

Isn't this great fun, folks? Are you getting better? I didn't think so and
you won't either while this debate rages on.
