It has been five months since Amgen stopped supplying GDNF to the 30+ patients participating in phase 1 and 2 clinical trials in the United States and the United Kingdom. Some have shut down their pumps altogether, while others are running saline through them so they will be ready should Amgen decide to provide them with GDNF again. Time is of the essence, as many of these patients' symptoms worsen with each passing day. Patients, family and other concerned PWP have deluged Amgen with letters requesting that the company reinstate the treatments under "compassionate use" guidelines. Amgen, thus far, has refused to do so.
