hi geoff, 1) i am on mirapex now but went the first 4 years at least, maybe 5, without medication. My deterioration was (and continues to be) very slow. My symptoms off medication were never anywhere near as bad as what i see other people experiencing with on/off issues (and they still are not, even on medication.) 2) my symptoms started on the right - it is my understanding that that is a hallmark characteristic of parkinson's - symptoms starting on one side, and eventually spreading to the other - and they are, in fact, slowly effecting my left side as well - the left side seems to be a good 6 or more years behind the right in terms of deterioration.
