Dear Editor:

Rep. Bob Stump's HB2221 places a big obstacle in the way of scientific research that could help millions of living, suffering people.

The opposition to therapeutic and reproductive cloning rests its case on the idea that nuclear transfer destroys embryos that contain undifferentiated cells that are people and reproductive cloning is just plain scary.

Any cell in your body, a skin cell, each neuron, each liver cell has, under the right circumstances the ability to become your clone. The difference is the environment and the proteins that decorate your DNA strands.

Are we really going to reduce moral relevance to the presence or absence of certain proteins in a cell?
Let's debate and learn about this issue.
