Thanks to everybody who's responded to my request so far, including those who responded privately. What a great resource this list is! Yaying >>> [log in to unmask] 03/24/05 11:53 am >>> Yaying, I have used the Andrews' guide to management communication and found it helpful. It's designed for advanced management students (upper undergraduate level or graduate level) and includes some discussion of genre systems. It's also very concise and can be complemented well with additional materials you or the students may bring in. The other texts that were mentioned sound like excellent choices, too, of course. Locker's Business and Administrative Communication (Irwin, I think) is a very good book. You may also want to have a look at Boone, Kurt, and Block's Contemporary Business Communication (Prentice Hall). Keith Johnson >>> [log in to unmask] 03/23/05 8:55 pm >>> Dear colleagues, I've been asked to develop a Management Communication course for our new MBA program here at the University College of the Cariboo (soon to be Thompson Rivers University!). Can you recommend textbooks that have worked for you? I'm looking for textbooks that approach business communication from a discourse or genre analysis perspective, so that students will learn to critically examine the discourse practices they are asked to engage in in addition to learning the practical aspects of business communication.
