Marlowe’s play, written shortly before the playwright was assassinated in 1593 at the age of 29, shows the results of fatal combination of love and politics. It is considered the first great history play, foreshadowing Shakespeare’s kingly dramas. Maury Miller plays King Edward and Matthieu Cornillon his lover Gaveston. The cast also includes Joel Bischoff, Michael Boothroyd, Patrick J. Egan, Zachary Green, Max Hambleton, Paul Hansen, Laura Ionata, John Lisanti, Orville Matherson, Ryan G. Metzger, Jessica Mills, Kevin Sebastian, and Joshua Stamell. Jeff Dailey, who has directed all of Marlowe’s plays, is the stage director. The show runs from March 30 through April 17, 2005, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM, with Sunday matinees at 2 PM. The theatre is located at 314 West 54th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues, convenient to the Columbus Circle station on the A, B, C, D, and 1 subways, and the 57th Street station on the N, R, and Q lines.
