-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Notice re John Elliott Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005 09:13:20 -0400 From: Alexandra Johnston <[log in to unmask]> Professor John Elliott died last Tuesday, April 5, after a long illness. Those of you who subscribe to Perform will have seen the notice his death posted by Bob Potter on Thursday. The funeral mass for John will be held today at 10 am in Lakefield Connecticutt. John’s association with Records of Early English Drama went back to the very early days of the project. He undertook the records of Oxford University and, when the publication of that collection was delayed, he moved on to begin the work on the records of the Inns of Court. It was sadly ironic that he suffered his massive stroke just as we were moving the Oxford records into production. It was suitable that the work on the Oxford University material was completed by John’s close friend, Alan Nelson, and that Alan has now undertaken to finish the Inns of Court project. At both launches of the Oxford volumes – both here in Toronto and in Oxford -- Alan paid eloquent tribute to John’s scholarship. We are grateful that John was able to see the completed Oxford edition. Notes of remembrance and condolence can be sent to John’s sons Mark Elliott, 442 Wyldhaven Road, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 USA and Rick Elliott, 390 Bohnen Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95065 USA. Mark’s phone number is (610) 581 0424 and Rick’s is (831) 238 3547 -- Abigail Ann Young (Dr), Associate Editor/ Records of Early English Drama/ Victoria College/ 150 Charles Street W/ Toronto Ontario Canada Phone (416) 585-4504/ FAX (416) 813-4093/ [log in to unmask] List-owner of REED-L <http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~reed/reed-l.html> http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~reed/reed.html => REED's home page http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~reed/stage.html => our theatre resource page http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~young => my home page
