An evaluation by a good neurosurgical team is essential as is a knowledgeable programmer. As with any surgery, there are risks and outcomes will vary. People must weigh these things against a chance at a significant improvement in quality of life. Very few we know who have had the surgery have said they would not do it all over again in spite of less than optimal results.
