John, assure her that even though it is a daunting experience, it doesn't
hurt, not even the drillling of 2 holes in your head.  The brain feels no
pain.  I threw up afterwards after being given something when they sewed me
up.  The incisions from the implants don't even hurt, it's not like
abdominal surgery.

Also, the brain lesion does give you temporary improvement.  My left foot
that was turned in due to dystonia straightened out on the operating table.

You sis is lucky to have a supporter like you.  My mom was still living when
I had my first DBS and she made my brother come to see me.

No doubt about it, it is a serious surgery, but  I don't think I could have
lived with the tremors I  had.  True, there can be complications, but most
of us are glad we did it - in my case twice.
