PURPOSE:

 

The Writing Centre Assistant will provide writing support to promote and
enhance academic writing skills for undergraduate students in all faculties
of the university, and assist the Co-ordinator in the general administration
of the Program.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

.                      Providing one-one-one tutoring for undergraduate
students who either have difficulty with, or want to enhance their writing
skills; organizing and conducting follow-up appointments with students. 

.                      Identifying writing issues and prioritizing writing
needs, as well as suggesting strategies for improvement and specific writing
resources for undergraduate students who use the Writing Centre             

.                      Organizing and developing relevant exercise material
for tutoring on all aspects of writing, including discipline-specific
writing

.                      Organizing and developing workshops and orientation
sessions and conducting presentations as they relate to the Writing Centre

.                      Assisting the Co-ordinator with the general
administration of the Writing Centre and  administering the centre in the
Co-ordinator's absence            

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a university degree and 6 months to two years
related experience (preferably as tutor in a writing centre)

 

PLEASE NOTE:

 

This position is open to internal candidates and is represented by the WLU
Staff Association Bargaining Unit.




 

*This limited term position is for 35 hours per week, starting around
September 2005 and ending around May 2006 (to be confirmed upon hire).
