S. Brunswick woman raises $1,000 for Parkinson's

Ann Marie Konopka, South Brunswick, recently raised more than $1,000 for
and participated in the 2005 Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York City in
mid-April. More than 8,500 walkers took part in the two-mile walk and
raised more than $1 million for research.

The crowd was addressed by actor Michael J. Fox. All funds will be used for
research and be distributed among the major U.S. Parkinson's disease
foundations. Konopka was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in February
2004 at the age of 37. She serves on the board of directors as vice
president at Northeast Parkinson's and Caregivers, an Internet-based
support group.
