It is with great and everlasting sadness, that we announce the passing of Murray Charters. Murray passed away suddenly and peacefully in his favourite chair, 2 years after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Murray was born in Rosetown, Saskatchwan, graduated from Northwest Central High School in Plenty, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Alberta. Murray worked in the oil fields as a teenager, for an electric company and then became a proud member of the Elevators Constructor's Union where he remained for 41 years, working mainly for Otis and Fujitec. Murray loved to run and dance, both of which he had to give up when diagnosed in 1994 with Parkinson's Disease. He became a dedicated supporter of Parkinson's Disease and developed his own free and easy to use website and was given 2 awards in recognition of his efforts in 2004 in Washington, D.C., which was named after him and 1 in New York City. Murray was predeceased by his father Murray, brother Clifford and sister Kathleen Gail. Murray is survived by his adoring wife Brenda, mother Dorothy, in-laws Jean and Sam Rigby, loving children Roseanne (Harold), Lisa (Karey), Sherry, Christina and Martin, very special granddaughters Amara, Rylie and Molly, sisters Sharon (Earle) Rand, Janet (Inglis) Bonar and brothers Patrick (Chris) Whitley, Lorne (Pam) Charters, Barry (Shirley) Charters, David (Linda) Charters, Michael (Shirley) Charters; brothers-in-law, Neil (Dee Dee) Rigby, Scott (Lorraine) Rigby, Paul (Shirley) Wilson; sister-in-law Judy (Al) Leshchyshyn with various nieces, nephews and cousins, There will be a celebration of life for Murray at the Community Centre on Granville Island, Friday, June 10, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Please come and share your stories of Murray.
