Subject: It's Crunch Time for Stem Cells

CRPF Action Alert

It's Crunch Time for Stem Cells.

The Senate will vote on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act in July!

Meet with your Senators over the July 4th Recess!

Dear [supporter first name]:

We've just learned that the Senate has committed to considering the Stem
Cell Research Enhancement Act next month. Our window of opportunity is
short -- the bill could be voted on as early as July 12th, or any time
before July 29th.

We're already at 41 co-sponsors, including leading Republicans and
Democrats, but with opposition from the White House, we need your help to
keep the pressure on and make our voices heard. Recent polling shows
that a vast majority of Americans -- over 70% -- believe that embryonic
stem cell research should move forward.

Your Senators will be home July 1st to July 11th. This is a great
opportunity to ask your Senators to support and pass the Stem Cell
Research Enhancement Act. We've put together a quick list of what you
can do to make your support known and to talk to them about why it's
important to expand the policy now:

        Call their district offices
(http://www.kintera.org/siteapps/advocacy/search.aspx?c=dkLQK8MNIpG&b=306
532)  ;
        Set up a meeting in your state;
        Attend a town hall meeting;
        Bring a sign supporting stem cell research to your local July 4th
parade;
        Enlist the help of friends to maximize our impact.

Even those Senators who already have indicated their support need to hear
from you. Your actions will make a critical difference!

The good news is that there is bipartisan support for this bill in the
Senate, and we're confident that the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act
has a good chance of passing. But we still have an uphill climb.

Opponents of this bill are determined to defeat it. Their position is in
contrast to the vast majority of Americans, who see the phenomenal
potential to help millions. That's why we must move quickly and
decisively to ensure a profound impact on the future of medical research
and the lives of patients.

Here are some talking points for your call to your Senator:

        As a constituent, I am calling to strongly urge Senator _______ to vote
YES on the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005."

        Explain your personal connection to this legislation.

        This bill would expand the current federal policy on embryonic
stem cell research to allow for federal funding on stem cell lines that
meet clear ethical guidelines, which is needed for scientists to explore
the full promise of this research.

        This bill is NOT about human cloning, nor does it endorse human
reproductive cloning in any way. All responsible parties oppose human
reproductive cloning.

        This bill would allow federal funding of embryonic stem cell
lines that were derived from in vitro fertilization embryos in excess of
clinical use that are slated to be discarded.

        Embryonic stem cells have the potential to be used to treat and
better understand a multitude of diseases and disorders.

There is no time to waste. Take Action Now

Christopher Reeve imagined living in a world where politics would never
get in the way of hope!

He supported embryonic stem cell research and SCNT, not for his own
benefit, but for the millions of Americans who could live better lives
through the advancement of research.
