Hello Friends. I have been quietly reading your vigorous conversations the past few months, but having entered the "Fall aand Fracture" phase of my PD and Osteoporosis, it has been very difficult to sit at the computer. However, I do want to let you know about the Atlanta Chapter APDA's upcoming event . If any of you are in the area, please do come!

Forum on Stem Cell Research

Presented By

Georgia Chapter American Parkinson Disease Association

Please join us on August 3, 2005 at the Marriott Atlanta Century Center, 2000 Century Blvd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30345 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Experts in their field will present their views on one of the most controversial subjects facing modern medicine, Stem Cell Research.

- Dr. Jorge Juncos, Associate Professor of Neurology and Medical Director for the APDA Information & Referral Center at Emory University, will provide background information on embryonic stem cell research.

- Dr. Analia Bortz, Rabbi for Or-Hodash Congregation, will discuss the ethical implications of ongoing cell studies.

- Father John Schramko, Parochial Vicar at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, will discuss the Roman Catholic viewpoint on stem cell research.

- Dr. Robert E. Gross, Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery and Co-director of the Center for Functional Neurosurgery and Neurology at Emory University, will speak on “Cell Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease”.

- Chris Carr, Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator Johnny Isaakson, will represent the political point of view of the current Bush administration.

Indications are that stem cell research can lead to treatments of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, spinal cord injuries and other neurological diseases.

This forum is free to the public. Please come join us as we share information on this very controversial topic.

We extend our thanks to the Parkinson Action Network and to the Alzheimer’s Association for their support in planning this forum.
