I've wondered the same thing.   Of course I am ignorant of the biological
sciences,  but still can't understand how you could lose 80% of those cells,
then suddenly, everything slowly starts to go.

My PET scan was read as "consistent with Parkinson's  disease".   I don't
think scientists have a very good understanding of this mysterious disease.
