I honestly can't say the sources or probably sources for that info. But I would presume that the information didnt come from the general diagnsis and trreatment of Parkies. My guess is that the the question has been looked into in more than one research protocol. I would think that although few in comaprison to the PD population as a whole, there have been enough autposies and uptake scans to provide a foundation for the 80% figure. But if anyone has a real answer, I'd be interested myself.

My question is......how do scientist know this?? This is one of those
suppositions that I am not sure is backed up by fact. Since PET scans are
seldom done in PD and we have already been made aware on this list of the
supreme difficulty in obtaining PWP's brains for autopsy, where did this
80% fact come from? I'm wondering if this fact is like the 'estrogen
prevents heart disease and dementia' proclamation.
