The world's first pure batch of nerve stem cells has been created in Edinburgh. 
It is hoped the cells, which were fashioned recently from human stem cells , will eventually help scientists find new treatments for diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. 
The cells should also help researchers test the effectiveness of new drugs. 
Previous attempts at creating the nerve cells have produced contaminated
