University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia Lecturer in English: Medieval Literature School of English, Art History, Film and Media Reference No. B35/006279 Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Medieval English Literature in the Department of English within the School of English, Art History, Film and Media. The Department of English has approximately 30 academic staff, and offers undergraduate and postgraduate education and training in all fields and periods of English language and literature, from the medieval to the contemporary. In the medieval field, the department has traditionally had teaching and research strengths in Old and Middle English and the related areas of Old Norse-Icelandic, Old Irish and Middle Welsh. The department is seeking a Lecturer in Medieval English Literature (800-1500) who has demonstrable research expertise in either Old English (Anglo-Saxon) or Middle English literature and the capacity to teach in both areas. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate units of study and to supervise Honours and postgraduate research students in relevant fields. In addition, he or she will be expected to undertake administration and curriculum development as required, and to pursue an active research program. Applicants must have a PhD in English, with a specialisation in either Old or Middle English literature, and be able to provide evidence of research publications and current research activity in either Old English (Anglo-Saxon) or Middle English literature. Experience in teaching at undergraduate level and ability to contribute in other areas of departmental teaching are essential. Experience in lecturing and in the supervision of Honours and postgraduate students is desirable. The ability to teach in either Old Norse-Icelandic and/or Old Irish/Middle Welsh would be an advantage. The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and/or confirmation period for new appointees.
