Edith, I don't have any questions but am just passing along my experience
for your consideration. I think HHC aides involves tradeoffs.

When my mom first came home from rehab after her stroke we had 24 hour care
and the gal was a neatnik (good) who rearranged everything in her house
(bad). I don't think we would have thought to ask a question of the agency
to the effect that "do you take it upon yourself to rearrange her house? "

I got M from her who was excellent in many ways (She got me to AZ, went with
me for DBS surgeries)(good) but would disappear without notifying me when
the after surgery tune-ups became too routine.(not good). Once she brought
her husband's??? illegitimate child (he is an abstinence speaker for Bush)
to my house which I didn't mind, but no agency would allow.

I had J on recommendation from people in the complex who was reliable but
bossy. Presently I have K 4 hrs one day a week. She only pretends to work,
but like M, I really really like her.

When my mom went into hospice we had 24 hr care and the day she died I was
at her house around 11AM, had to go home to rest and asked to be called if
mom's condition changed. At 4PM my brother arrived from the Sacramento area
and called to tell me she had died. I couldn't close her eyes or mouth, so
it was very upsetting. Still don't know why I wasn't called.

I wish you luck no matter how many questions you have. It is surprising the
things that come up. That is why it is awful to be so vulnerable.
Ray
