At the last Inkshed conference I talked about some consulting I was doing with financial services writers. The model they were taught in the firm was a five paragraph analysis of a particular company. The first paragraph was actually referred to as "the thesis". While there was some variation in the number of paragraphs and in the organization of the document, some of these analyses did match the five paragraph essay structure. Granted, there was considerable variation away from it depending on who the supervisor/editor was for the analyst/writer. But it is out there, at least in this one instance.
