A belated thank you to everyone who responded to my query a while back
about ESL advising. I'm developing some proposals for placement of
non-native speakers in our first year composition courses, and for
supporting them in our first year content courses. I'd like to get in
touch with people with experience with some specific approaches.

Can anyone point me to institutions with any of the following
programmes/practices? 

1. Programmes that place native and non-native speakers (or high-level
non-native speakers) in the same first year compositions course, but
offer the non-native speakers some kind of additional support within
those courses.(e.g., grammar tutorials?)

2. Programmes that offer course-specific support for non-native speakers
within their first year content courses. e.g., ESL study
groups/tutorials/study partners? 

3. Programmes that offer an ESL assistant or ESL training for
instructors of content courses.

4. In-house placement testing that requires/encourages students to
follow up with advising, e.g., at the Writing Centre.

5. Programmes that offer "self-placement tools" or advising to help ESL
students select an appropriate composition course?

6.  Programmes that offer specialized advising for incoming ESL and/or
foreign students?
