We had the same situation at first with our doctor not wanting to program
the ARC so we could make minor adjustments ourselves, but now have it
programmed to be able to adjust at least the voltage settings.  Even if the
doc doesn't set it, you can still use it to turn yourself on if you
accidentally get turned off.  Doctors can charge up to about $360 a visit
when they adjust the neurostimulator.  They get nothing when we do it.  I'm
not saying that's the only reason why they don't want patients using it, but
it's a thought worth pondering.  ;-)
