Ray,
I can get you in touch with Hwang Woo-suk or at least get you the
information as to "how to get in touch."

Take Charge! Cure Parkinson's, Inc. (TCCP)works closely with Bernie Siegel
of the Genetics Policy Institute in South Florida. Bernie just spoke at our
Parkinson's Empowerment Program, along with Dr. Abraham Lieberman. A summary
of the Parkinson's Empowerment Program is on our website in a large pink box
at the bottom left of the front page at _www.cureparkinsons.org_
(http://www.cureparkinsons.org) . The summary contains links to Dr. Abe Lieberman's
website (you can read a wealth information about Parkinson's and ask him
questions about Parkinson's) and a link to the Genetic Policy Institute.

I met with Bernie this past Friday, two days before he left for the World
Stem Cell Hub in Seoul. He returns on Saturday. I will be speaking with him on
Sunday. I will pass on your inquiry to him and get back to you with his
reply. This of course assumes that reports on Hurricane Wilma will be such that
she will pass through here as calmly as possible and leave little damage in
her wake. Otherwise, this time schedule might be adjusted.

In the center of the TCCP front page, sign up to be on our mailing list.
TCCP will send you an email of upcoming programs and events and news updates
from Florida.

As part of the Genetic Policy Institute host committee for "Celebrate Adam
Susser and the Promise of Stem Cell Research," let me know if you know someone
who would like to attend. Tickets are $100. Adam Susser is 5 years old and
is struggling to overcome cerebral palsy. He has become one of the first
patients to receive experimental stem cell treatments.

TCCP is also working together with Floridians for Stem Cell Research and
Cures, an initiative launched by Commissioner Burt Aaronson in Palm Beach County
in Florida, to gather 611,000 signatures to get embryonic stem cell research
on the ballot in 2006. This gameplan was adjusted when State Senator Ron
Klein and Representative Franklin Sands moved to introduce legislation in 2006
to get funding in the State budget to provide $15 million annually in state
funding for Embryonic and Adult Stem Cell research. The legislation is to be
called the "Florida Better Quality of Life and Biomedical Research Act."

We are still gathering signatures as a show of strength in support of the
legislation introduced by Klein and Sands. We expect to have the 611,000
signatures in hand, if needed, for the Floridians for Stem Cell Research and Cures
to be on the ballot in 2008. If you or someone you know is registered to
vote in Florida, Take Charge! Cure Parkinson's will send you an attachment with
the petition to be signed to get state funding for stem cell research on the
ballot.

My sister, Fran Landes, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1998, in her
mid-forties. Take Charge! Cure Parkinson's, Inc. was founded in December 1999.
Our mission is to increase awareness and understanding of Parkinson's, to
improve quality of life and support research efforts to find a cure.

Linda, do you know if PAN has or has plans to establish liaison with Hwang's
World Stem Cell Hub?

Even if I had Hwang's phone or email I could probably not get through to
him. What if a person wanted to be his guinea pig or send him skin cells? I
swore I would never have DBS but I did it - twice!!!

I think there is going to be a long line at Seoul U or the WSCH. At almost
70, I don't have 30 or 40 years to wait til Bush gets off his butt. Even if
it didn't work, one could feel one had made a contribution to future success.

Hwang is committed to doing something NOW. I respectfully suggest we forget
our government, the science being argued about is old and I don't want
someone else's old embryos anyway. I think nuclear transfer and Hwang are the
way to go.

At least I could stop bitching about Bush and do something constructive.
Calls to legislators are a big waste of time.
