      Journal Rebuffs Doubts Over Hwang Research 
        
      The U.S. journal Science has dismissed doubts about the validity of Dr. Hwang Woo-suk's stem cell research. The magazine said it had confirmed the authenticity of the study before publishing Hwang's research paper last year. 
      In a written statement to Korean journalists, Science explained that when a research paper is published, scientists worldwide pursue similar experiments using the study as a basis to verify the results. So far, the journal said no scientist raised questions over the authenticity of Hwang's findings. At the same time, the New York Times reported that Hwang had notified Science of plans to retract some research photographs originally published with his submission, citing a clerical mix-up. The geneticist promised to supply the proper supporting material. A spokeswoman for the magazine said minor errors in articles were not uncommon.
