I was on my way to the mall, totally stressed out, wondering how it
had gotten to be Dec. 23 again, and with me totally unprepared,
absorbed in work, and about to explode under the pressure. I had the
radio on, just to absorb some of my mind's noise level, and after the
totally forgotten classic hit was over, the DJ came on and said, "I
just want to say Merry Christmas to everybody, Happy Hannukah, y'know,
Quanza, whatever, whoever, the best of the holidays, and for all you
atheists out there...well...have a nice day." I paused a minute,
searching for the offense, then I got the punchline, and said "Thanks"
to my radio for the tip of the hat, and had a hearty laugh.

The meaning of the holidays is family. In my family, some are
Christian, some are not, but we never forget or exclude each other at
this time of year, and that's beautiful.

My son, who grew up in a multicultural district, says, "Hap-ry
Devasolquistmikadan, everyone!" This is a composite word which he
created to make it easier to extend well wishes to people of all
religious backgrounds. We're all included in his message, and I think
that's remarkable.

Wishing all the best to everyone, and especially wishing peace to us
all in the new year.

Rick
