Senate Support Needed for Parkinson's Research Bill

Senate Parkinson's Bill Fights for a Cure Take Action!

                  Your Senators Should Co-Sponsor S 2115

Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Gordon Smith (R-OR), co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Parkinson's Disease, along with Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Norm Coleman (R-MN), Mark Dayton (D-MN), and Patty Murray (D-WA) introduced The Morris K. Udall Parkinson's Disease Research Act Amendments of 2005. The bill, along with companion legislation in the House of Representatives (HR 3550) will amend and strengthen the Morris K. Udall Parkinson's Disease Research Act of 1997, which many advocates successfully worked to enact.
The Udall Centers are 12 National Institutes of Health sponsored research facilities located across the country which specialize in Parkinson's disease research. The Centers focus on understanding the fundamental causes of Parkinson's and finding ways to better diagnosis and treatment patients with Parkinson's.
The Udall Act Amendments will accelerate the pace of Parkinson's disease research and hasten better treatments and a cure for Parkinson's disease. The changes called for in S 2115 will compel the NIH to focus more of its Parkinson's dollars on "results-oriented" research, reward the unique aspects of the Udall Centers, and give the public a stronger understanding of who is impacted by this devastating disease and why.
Please email your Senator today and ask him/her to support a faster cure for Parkinson's by co-sponsoring this legislation.
                  Specifically, S 2115:
. Requires strategic and focused funding of Parkinson's research at NIH
. Strengthens the Udall Centers of Excellence for Parkinson's Research
. Maximizes federal dollars already spent on Parkinson's research
. Helps determine how many Americans are battling Parkinson's disease
. Does not call for additional spending
This legislation has the support of the entire Parkinson's patient community, including the Parkinson's Action Network, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, National Parkinson Foundation, Parkinson Alliance, and American Parkinson Disease Association.
