Medicare choices and voices for Parkinson’s patients A special program dedicated to Parkinson’s and the Medicare Rx Drug Plan Parkinson’s disease is the second highest occurring neurodegenerative disease in the elderly after Alzheimer’s. The primary treatment for Parkinson’s is levodopa, an oral medication that replicates or replaces dopamine, the neurotransmitter or chemical messenger between nerve cells, essential in making the connection in the brain between a thought and an action. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s. Treatment strives to improve quality of life by minimizing or controlling symptoms with an arsenal of medications. WHO: A speaker from the Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) program and Dr. Abraham Lieberman, a world-renowned neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders. Dr.Stuart Isaacson, a neurologist also specializing in Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders will join Dr. Lieberman for the program on Friday February 3 . The programs are hosted by Take Charge!
