Republican, pro-life governor Blunt supports SCNT but not using IVF embryos because a sperm is involved. Opposition is strong in MO as evidenced by this letter:

Cloning cells an unethical act

The stem-cell research proponents are spending megabucks to get this constitutional amendment passed in the state of Missouri. 
I think that one of the goals is for these research organizations and scientists to get their hands on public money. Look at the money being spent on prime-time TV ads already. 


       
The ethical part of this proposal is the more serious. The proponents first tried to mislead us with technical language, somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT for short) which is the same technique as used for cloning life. This procedure was used to clone Dolly the sheep. 

The proponents would have us believe that this is not a living human being because it wasn't fertilized with a live human sperm, but the bottom-line truth here is that it takes a living embryo to produce the stem cells.
