THANK YOU. Barbara & JOHN!!! for the past 6 years that I have been a part of PIEN, has been informative. comforting, interesting and just plain fun. It often gives me something to look forward to. I have been up (when I couldn't sleep) many a time at 3:00 A.M. reading the latest postings and some that come and go (Murray Charters, for instance) I miss terribly-such good contributations! Would like to hear more often from Don McKinley, a PD hero to all of us and I miss the rather controversial Neuro surgeon (forgot his name). Its a great family to belong to.

>> Happy New Year from snow-covered Southern Ontario. I hope you all had
>> a pleasant holiday time.
>>
>> It is now over 12 years since the Parkinsn Information Exchange
>> Network (PIEN) began. The University of Toronto has generously housed
>> our group all this time. Thousands of messages have passed among
>> us....information, opinions, support, humour and calls to action.
>>
>> Several years ago now, John Cottingham volunteered to help me with the
>> day-to-day management of PIEN and he has been our guardian angel ever
>> since. Thank you, John. This past spring, John and I shared as
>> recipients of the Alan Bonandar Humanitarian Award from the Parkinson
>> Alliance. We met in New York City in April of this year to attend the
>> presentation of the award in Central Park. This was the second time
>> John and I had met in person. What an amazing thing the internet is.
>> John and I have chatted, co-written documents, made decisions and
>> managed a lively discussion list together for several years but only
>> met in person in the spring of 2004.
>>
>> I would also like to thank those members who keep PIEN active and
>> interesting and informative. What would we do without them!! Also,
>> what would we do without those members (St. Joan for example) who
>> inspire us to take a more active stance in the fight against
>> Parkinson's and the fight for the right to search for a cure or
>> treatment even if an area of research is not currently ?politically
>> correct'.
>>
>> Welcome to all our new members. I hope your involvement with PIEN is
>> helpful. Welcome, also, to those researchers who are using PIEN for
>> some of your data.... but, please let us know when you are doing this
>> and what the purpose is...as a matter of courtesy. We are all aware, I
>> am sure, that what we post on PIEN is not private, no matter how
>> personal it may be.
>>
>> May the new year be better for us all.
