APDA Young Onset Retreat in TN - March Want to visit beautiful East Tennessee in the early spring? Want to put names to faces? Want to bring the entire family for a relaxing yet exciting weekend? APDA Young Onset Retreat Townsend, TN March 16-17-18 *Sponsored by the American Parkinson's Disease Association Support Groups of Alabama, Louisiana, North Florida, Mississippi, & Tennessee Carla Cothran, Caryn Crenshaw, & Brenda Allred (APDA Nurse Coordinators) Due to hurricane damage, the APDA Young Onset Parkinson's Retreat (held in the past in Ocean Springs, MS), is scheduled for Townsend, TN; Thurs. March 16 thru Sun. March 19 (3 nights). Townsend in NE Tennessee, is near Knoxville, where you would fly into McGhee-Tyson Airport. If driving, Townsend is about 600 miles from Ocean Springs. This beautiful, peaceful area is located at the entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains. Just moments away is Cades Cove, (www.nps.gov/grsm/gsmsite/cadescove ) the most visited area of the national parks. Visit the Cove which is full of nature and history, and such recreational activities as camping and fishing. There's also a lush 18-hole golfcourse in Townsend, Laurel Valley Golf ( www.laurelvalleygolf.com/golf ). Or drive a short distance to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, home of Dollywood Theme Park, Ripley's Aquarium, and numerous other family activities, not to mention some great shopping, candy & craft shops!) There will be times to socialize, water aerobics at the indoor pool, a possible hayride, a pie eatin' contest, and other adult and family activities, culminating in a Hillbilly Hoedown on Saturday night (ya'll bring yer overalls!). *Costs: If donations and grants play into this retreat, accommodations will be funded, as well as food.
