No.....we really are not.  A catastrophe is a world-wide pandemic.  PD is an
awful disease, but it does not affect everyone and never will.

 Also I don't view humans as

I have two very large dogs and although I treasure them, they are definitely
not better than the people in my life.

Stem cell research and chimeras deserve careful scrutiny.  To not do so is
to bring about devastating results for  more than just the recipients of
genetic material.  While I am not against stem cell research I get a bit
disgusted with the attitude that we are to rush into all kinds of research
regardless of the consequences.  People have died and will continue to die
because they have been the recipients of genetic and stem cell therapy.

As for my fear of animals being overblown.......try telling that to the
doctors and scientists that are monitoring Avian Flu.
