Archie,

Thank you for your message and the points you make; the most important one being of making sure that input[ number of ?'s] is minimised. I realise that not all PwP's have a PC but every one that's a member of this group must have one if only to send/receive emails; or their partner/cg. My idea is that the 'system' be designed, built and implemented and the database populated, initially, by as many members of this group as possible and a control group [as you suggest]. I respect the point you make about involving people/groups with expertise in gathering & analysing this type of data but I would rather not involve too many, in fact only one or two, and that they understand the confidentiality and premise of this study.

One key issue that came up last time was confidentiality, i.e. no name and/or address linked to the data [records.. I think this should still be the case, however, there needs to be some authentication to ensure that the data is genuine.

I was in the IT Services Business for 26 years, with GE Information Services UK [HQ, Rockville MD]. I started as an Operator and when I left in 1996 I held the multi-role position of Consultant/Project Manager/Implementation Specialist. The technology has moved on but the methodology of designing, building, testing and implementing a World-wide system is pretty much the same. I offer my ideas and skills to the group.

The first step is to decide on the structure of the questionnaire, the method/s of input and updating. and the database record structure. I've started on the questionnaire and aim to have the first draft done by this Friday. This will essentially be a number of sections and within each questions, with: y/n, tick, numeric or one-three word answers. I've retrieved a copy, from the archive, of the draft I submitted in 2001, and I think I can do better.

By way of this email I would like to thank those that have replied to my email, to Sam, with such encouraging words, thanks.

Best regards,
Marco
