Awards - Creative and with Parkinson's?

The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) is encouraging all people with
Parkinson's to pull out their paintbrushes, take photos or get poetic, as the
annual Mervyn Peake awards enter their fifth year.

With three categories to enter - art, poetry and photography - everything is
welcome from sketches to watercolours, limericks to odes, and intriguing
holiday photos to professional portraits.

This year, the awards will be extra special, as, for the first time, unusual
or exceptional work will be showcased in a PDS calendar. In addition, a
gallery of selected entries will be on show at a gala reception on Friday 7th
July 2006.

The event is held in memory of the late artist and writer Mervyn Peake, whose
works included Gormenghast and the Alice in Wonderland illustrations, and who
developed Parkinson's in later life. Mervyn Peake's family launched the
awards in 2002 to celebrate the creative achievements of people living with
Parkinson's.

Participants will have until Monday 3rd April to submit their work. More
details are available from the Events Team.
