Dear colleagues,

please join us for the 2006 CATTW conference "Writing in the Knowledge Society" from 28-30 May at York University in Toronto! We received outstanding presentation proposals this year again, so that the program committee was able to put together a very exciting event with more than 70 presenters, including 24 international colleagues from Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. This year's keynote speakers include

*	Catherine Schryer, University of Waterloo (http://www.optometry.uwaterloo.ca/~mspaffor/cshryer/main.htm). "Genres as Boundary Objects: Transforming Knowledge between Communities of Practice."
*	Ken Hyland, Centre for Academic and Professional Literacies (CAPLITS), (http://ioewebserver.ioe.ac.uk/ioe/cms/get.asp?cid=4441&4441_0=7970), University of London, UK. "Disciplines and Discourses: Social Interactions in the Construction of Knowledge."
*	The WIDE (Writing in Digital Environments) Research Collective, (http://www.wide.msu.edu), Jeff Grabill, Bill Hart-Davidson, and Jim Porter. "Writing and/as Knowledge Work in the Information Economy."

The conference will be concluded by renowned digital literacies researchers Colin Lankshear and Michele Knobel from Australia (http://www.geocities.com/c.lankshear) with a workshop titled "Using Wikis for Collaborative Transfer of Research into Policy for Writing in the Knowledge Society."

We are currently putting the finishing touches on the program and plan to have the complete conference Web site all ready by the end of the month.

The Congress has started accepting registrations (see http://www.fedcan.ca/congress2006/registration/index.htm) and will have its room reservation services available at http://www.fedcan.ca/congress2006/services/accommodation.htm on Feb 15. The FedCan site will also have info on the discount codes for the different airlines for the event.

Finally, we are particularly grateful to have received support from SSHRC, York University, and the McGill Faculty of Education for the conference.

We hope to see you in Toronto in May!

Best,

Doreen Starke-Meyerring
