Call for Papers MLA 2006

"Pax Christi: Christ as Peacemaker in Early Theatre"

MRDS Session to be held at the 2006 Modern Language Association
Convention in Philadelphia on Dec. 27-30.



This panel invites papers that study how portrayals of Christ that act
to reconcile parties, remove conflict, or bring about conversion or
changes of heart in Medieval or Early Modern Theatre. Such
representations could be achieved by the agency of a human actor, an
image or painting, or even by invocation of the Savior through prayer,
hymn, or liturgical borrowing.  This panel invites papers that focus on
many different approaches to performance, including  but not limited to
sociology, anthropology, history, art history, and theology. Papers
dealing with continental, British, or New World drama are all encouraged.



Submit one-page abstracts via email to Victor Scherb
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) or Gloria
Betcher ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>).  Abstracts
should include a brief bio and relevant contact information. All
abstracts must be received by March 7th.
