George

I don't think rasagiline has won FDA approval yet for marketing in the US,
so there may not be a lot of experience with the drug.

I took rasagilene for a number of years as part of the clinical trial for
the drug. At the time, it was the only med I was taking, and I thought it
was helpful, but I didn't need much at the time. The hope has been that it
is 'neuroprotective' and perhaps will slow progression of the disease.

The end of my use of the drug may interest you. As part of the clinical
study, we were sent to a dermatologist every three months; at the last of
these exams he detected a melanoma, subsequently biopsed and removed --
'last' of the exams because I was kicked out of the study when the melanoma
was found. There seems to be some association between a greater risk of
melanoma and some of our drugs, rasagilene among them. The risk may be low,
but melanoma is no fun either.
