Mary Ann -- My understanding of laboratory research is that a lot of work is currently done with cells extracted from tumors. They provide something of a model of how cells work, but they have many mutations so aren't representative of what goes on in a healthy cell. In effect, every experiment done with tumor cells has a big question mark next to it. Stem cells, on the other hand, are from more intact sources. Therapeutic potential aside, experiments using stem cells may give far more meaningful results than the status quo. I don't think you'd be hearing much hype in the mainstream media if there were no ban on federal funding for the research. Billions of dollars worth of research goes on every year and you rarely hear a word about it, this was brought to the forefront because scientists were outraged at the application of non-science to the national science agenda. Bob Fink is a grown man. Everyone here is free to come and go as he or she chooses. He was not attacked or insulted, as I recall. He signed off after getting upset about a debate about stem cell research. Not really the best approach to helping PWP, if that was his intention. -A ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
