Dear Gail,

The first thing that I learned when my husband first started showing
symptoms was that he didn't want to know what was wrong with him. According
to him, if he didn't think about it, it wasn't happening! A real
"head-in-the-sand" attitude. It was very stressful for me, because I just
couldn't understand why someone wouldn't want to know what was wrong, and
what could be done for him.

If it was me, I would have been on the first plane to the Mayo Clinic. I've
been told that David was exhibiting a "male" attitude, a "Mr. Macho" type of
behavior. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. But I can definitely relate to
your mother's stress level.

Glad to have you here, Gail. Everyone will share any and all information
with you. What, by the way, are your stepfather's symptoms? How long has
he been ill? When was he diagnosed?

Bev, Care Giver to David, age 70, diagnosed 10 years ago, symptoms for at
least 38 years.
