Hi Maryse,

you don't know DAs can push people to compulsions, you *believe* they can, in spite of the fact that there is *zero* evidence to support that belief.

Dodd showed absolutely nothing.

  Likewise with Szarfman's study.

if dr. stacy had set out with the goal of showing that there was no association rather than that there was, with exactly the same data, he would have succeeded.

sure, you could recommend that someone engaging in compulsive behavior change their DA... or that they change their clothes detergent, or that they eat more beets, or that they sleep on the other side of the bed - because there is as much evidence that any of those things will have an effect as there is that changing your DA will.

likewise, you can go around suggesting that there is a link (you were the first to mention such a link on this list, actually), just like you could go around telling people that sinemet is linked to hairloss, or aspirin to high blood pressure, or vitamin E is neuroprotective, or that sleeping with your head to the north helps with bradykinesia - you can go around telling people whatever you want.

but if you cite any of these studies as supporting your belief, you are giving people inaccurate and misleading information, because they do not, in fact, support your belief.

as far as I am concerned, knowing DA can push people to compulsions is already
something. It is easy to diminish/stop the drug. If no result, look further
but at least one can try stopping or changing the agonist first.
Ther is one instance of a french PWP ( an MD) who gambled away money, house
and all. To everyone´s surprise the urge only stopped when he had DBS, which
wasn´t the aim. That was many years ago. Now they do use DBS for some
compulsive behaviour.
