Congratulations on this initiative, Elaine! It looks very exciting, and
I know that Amanda will contribute wonderfully to its success. Anyone
who knows Amanda will appreciate how much the Centre for Academic
Writing has benefited from her energy, collegiality, and commitment to
teaching and learning. She has played a huge role in the development of
the CAW over the past dozen years. I know I speak on behalf of all the
faculty and staff at CAW in wishing her the best in this new
opportunity. We will miss her very much.

All the best,
Judith

Greetings,

Here's the announcement I've just sent to the SFU community. As you
can
imagine, we are very, very pleased at having someone of Amanda's
calibre
join us as we prepare to launch the Student Learning Commons service at
SFU.

Best,
Elaine

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Amanda Goldrick-Jones has been
appointed as the Writing Services Coordinator for the SFU Student
Learning
Commons, where she will be responsible for planning and providing
student
writing support programs and services.

Dr. Goldrick-Jones comes to us from the University of Winnipeg, where
she
has been Director and Associate Professor in the Centre for Academic
Writing. She has extensive experience administering, developing and
delivering writing programs, services and courses for academic and
professional audiences, and is currently President of the Canadian
Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (CATTW).

She holds a PhD in Communications and Rhetoric from Rensselaer
Polytechnic
Institute, an MA and BA in English Language, both from UBC, and is
currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Technology-Based
Distributed
Learning in the Master of Educational Technology program at UBC.

Dr. Goldrick-Jones will begin working with the Student Learning Commons
on
a part-time, distance basis as of May 1, 2006 and will take up her
full-time continuing position on campus on July 4, 2006.
