Hello Inkshed Members,

    Dalhousie's Writing Centre has been open for 32 years, but this is the first time we have been given the funds to hire an instructor apart from the coordinator and student tutors. We are excited by the propect of having a colleague. Here is the advertisement. It would be wonderful to have applicants! Enjoy your summer.

Advertisement: Required – Instructor for the Dalhousie Writing Centre
           Half-time, One-Year Limited Term Contract (beginning August 21, 2006)

The Dalhousie Writing Centre is seeking applications for a half-time limited term (12 months) position as an instructor, beginning August 21, 2006. Reporting to the Coordinator, the successful candidate will have three complementary areas of responsibility within the Centre. Firstly, s/he will instruct students in their writing projects both in one-to-one and small-group situations. Secondly, s/he will provide administrative support including but not limited to making appointments, collecting tutor hours for payroll needs, etc. Thirdly, s/he will assist the coordinator in promoting the Centre’s services, supervising the tutors, and developing materials for promotion, administration, and teaching.

The writing instructor will work half-days, five days/week (Monday – Friday), with occasional evening work required.

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (English, education, communication) or undergraduate degree and a Bachelor of Education – TC5, plus experience in teaching writing and English Second Language skill development. Awareness and appreciation of the Writing across the Disciplines approach to writing skill development is essential. The Writing Centre works potentially with all students at Dalhousie, including ESL students. Further qualifications: strong interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, empathy for the challenges faced by students, and commitment to the educational development of all students.
