Maryse,
I was so glad to see your email!!! Up until last summer our mother was
managing her PD very well - at 76 she was able to take aerobics and yoga a
couple times a week - then she injured her back (caretaking her 103 year old
mother-in-law) and it's been one thing after another since then - she
started slipping in a lot of different ways both physically and mentally.
Then she injured her back again and had back surgery in January and her life
really became a nightmare. Dementia, confusion, anxiety - very short fuse.
She's always been a fighter, but she became a world class whiner. It's
taken months to get her more or less squared away - she was put on several
different meds to deal with all her troubles, and we couldn't discern what
her condition really was from the ongoing and overlapping reactions to
various pain pills and anti-anxiety/depressives. She's settled down a lot
now, and although her physical and mental condition are both greatly
improved, her life is completely different than it was a year ago. This
article about Nonmotor Symptoms is full of info that hits the nail on the
head and explains a lot for us. It's so hard to get all the info from the
neurologist, although we like him and always put our concerns in writing to
take to appointments to try to give him the full picture, there isn't enough
time to just pick his brain.
THANK YOU!
Carol Troutman
