Press release:
Parkinson’s Disease Foundation to Launch
People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council

New York, NY – April 28, 2006

The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) announced today the creation of a People with Parkinson’s Advisory Council (PPAC) to enhance PDF’s work within the Parkinson’s community. This initiative will institute a mechanism that incorporates the patient perspective in the development and implementation of PDF’s strategies, programs and policies.

“Historically, PDF has been committed to ensuring that the voice of those directly affected by Parkinson’s disease be heard,” states Robin Elliott, Executive Director of PDF. “We are continuing this tradition by creating a formal place at the table for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. This will ensure that their perspective, insight and experience are firmly embedded into how we think, how we work and how we plan for the future in all areas of our work – be it research, education or advocacy.”

The PPAC will be comprised of people with Parkinson’s and caregivers. Members will be selected based on their demonstrated leadership within the Parkinson’s community, interests, skills and commitment to serving as a national representative for people with Parkinson’s disease. People with Parkinson’s disease and caregivers may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2006.
