Carole Hercun Creativity and Parkinson's - an Exhibition of Artwork by People Diagnosed with PD - Makes History at the World Parkinson Congress 2006 in Washington, DC The worldwide Parkinson community converged in February of 2006 at the World Parkinson Congress 2006 (WPC), a five day meeting held in the Convention Center in Washington, DC. The purpose of the WPC was to bring the entire Parkinson community together to review, share, teach and learn about Parkinson's disease (PD) and the latest advances in research, treatment and care. The WPC showcased recent and hopeful research, clinical practices, allied health professional procedures and practices, best care initiatives, support groups and activities, advocacy, networking and imaginative initiatives geared to support the person living with Parkinson's and the caregivers who help so much. Many people living with Parkinson's disease have found ways to rise above its impact to produce truly beautiful works of art, including visual arts, music, writing, drama, dance, craft, and web design. The therapeutic value of creativity was evident throughout the program. A component of the WPC, Creativity & Parkinson's - an exhibition of artwork made solely by people diagnosed with Parkinson's - provided a rich, comprehensive and inspirational message to the participants and gave tangible evidence that creativity can have an impact on one's quality of life. "The impact of the artwork and the artists' statements will hopefully fuel further study on the creative process and the therapeutic value of creativity." We invite you to explore the various facets of Creativity & Parkinson's by clicking on 'A Little History' where you can read excerpts from a few of the exhibition's leaders including Dr. Oliver Sacks, the Honorary Chair of the Creativity & Parkinson's Committee. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
