You're kidding, right? Having difficulty communicating with 2 girls, one a teenager? Oh, my. Now that is a problem.... Of course, I'm teasing. Raising children is not so easy, no matter what physical problems are entailed. May I suggest a family conference, setting out rules of the household, rules for school, rules for socializing, etc.; further, you need to be specific about rewards for appropriate behavior and consequences for serious infractions. Don't be afraid to take their ideas and feelings into consideration, but remember this: first, listen to your "gut." If you feel that something's not right, generally it's not. Secondly, be firm, fair, and consistent. Even though you should be firm, you can be flexible where possible, but you shouldn't be rigid. That can lead to lots of rebellion, which it sounds like you're trying to alleviate. Once you have the rules of the house laid down, type up the rules on paper and post it somewhere obvious, such as the refrigerator. You might want to have a "job" or "chore" chart. There can be rewards for doing the jobs, consequences (previously decided) for not doing them. At the family conference, be open and communicative about your own limitations, what you need to be able to functions, and really listen to the girls. This is obviously pretty facile, but you'd be surprised how things can flow once the "rules of the road" have been established.
