I personally agree with you that people who are addicted to smoking, alcohol, etc. likely have a personality type that is less likely to result in PD. However, there are investigators who are performing research into the chemical components of tobacco smoke, looking for neuroprotective agents. I am skeptical, but I wish them every success.
