Bush To Veto Funding of Stem Cell Research

George Bush might finally have something to veto. The Denver Post reports
that, according to Karl Rove, "President Bush will likely cast the first
veto of his presidency if the Senate, as expected, passes legislation to
expand federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research."
This, along with attacking gay marriage and promoting an anti-flag burning
amendement, will help excite the base. Maybe it will work. However on this
issue Bush is on the wrong side, both ethically and in terms of what the
majority of voters want. Are there enough fanatic authoritarian right wing
voters out there to outweigh the will of the majority of voters (who are
also less likely to vote in off year elections)? We'll see in November.

If this veto does happen, I'd have to say this would make a nice political
commercial.
Hello Howard Dean? Are you watching?

This is probably the one of the few issues I totally disagree with Bush on.
We need more funding in all areas of medical research. Most basic research
wouldn't be done if it wasn't for federal funding. I don't want to have to
rely on the greedy pharmaceuticals.

I disagree with Bush on everything, but his impending veto of stem cell
research affects me personally. I have Parkinson's disease and do not share
his faith-based delusion that microscopic undifferentiated cells are people.
This veto will be his worst crime against humanity as it affects millions of
actual living suffering people.
