Amanda, I have always taught that 1/3 supported the AR, 1/3 were Tories or Loyalists who supported GB (their homes have black bands still visible on chimneys for ID purposes) and 1/3 did nothing and it's pretty much the same today I think with respect to politics in the US. I don't know how historians got these estimated figures. After the war Tories had their properties confiscated and many moved to Canada. Patriot Ben Franklin's son was a Loyalist.
